HENRIETTE RONNER-KNIP (1821-1909, Dutch)
Henriëtte Ronner – Knip was born in Amsterdam into a family of painters, and she sold her first painting at the age 15. Ronner-Knip can perhaps be called the queen of 19th century cat painters. She was quite prolific, painting hundreds of works of cats and kittens. Her portrayals are mostly sentimental and focus on the cats themselves. Ronner-Knip was a true cat lover, constructing a specially built glass-fronted studio where she could study her many cats’ activities in order to capture them in her art.
