ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Leon Charles Huber (1858-1928, French) was a painter who specialized in animals, in particular cats. Huber’s cat paintings are reminiscent of many of the 19th century artists such as Julius Adam, Henriette Ronner-Knip, Jules Le Roy and Daniel Merlin, to name just a few. His cats are domestic, cute and mischievous and do not convey any deeper message for the viewer.
Born in Montmartre, Paris, he studied painting at L’Ecole des Beaux-Arts with Jules Grun. He exhibited his works at the Salon of French Artists from 1887. He won numerous awards for his art, and his works are still popular today and frequently up for auction at Christies.
