ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Reverend J.G. Wood (1827-1889, British) popularized natural history through his publication and lectures on zoology. His books were illustrated by drawing on large sheets of white paper with colored crayons. Wood was not really a scientist, but because of his publications, was able to inspire an interest in the natural world in those not specialized in the subject. His sketches of cats are primarily focused on the different breeds such as Manx and Angora cats.
